Welcome to Tartan Athletics

Mandy ClemesEl Camino College Compton Center is proud to offer an athletic program dedicated to the growth of student-athletes. Our Tartar Athletic Program is deeply committed to sportsmanship, teamwork, academics and training.

Sports are educational in the best sense of the word because they teach the participant and the observer new truths about testing oneself and others, about the enduring values of challenge and response, about teamwork, about discipline and perseverance.

At Compton Center, we are proud to belong to the California Community College Athletic Association. We believe that our student-athletes are truly the future leaders of our community, state and country. Thousands of men and women nationwide are stronger adults because of the challenges they mastered as young student-athletes at California community colleges.

As part of the South Coast Conference, Compton Center fields the following 10 intercollegiate sports: football, men's and women's basketball, baseball, men's soccer, women's soccer, men's and women's track and field, men's and women's cross country, and women's badminton.

  Our Philosophy

Compton Center provides student-athletes with the opportunity to compete in an intercollegiate athletic program. As part of the overall mission of the college, intercollegiate athletics are designed to provide an environment that encourages personal growth, discipline, assertiveness, persistence, honesty, sensitivity to others and emotional control.

Our athletic program is committed to sound education processes that will allow every student-athlete to physically and mentally challenge himself/herself to excel in a competitive atmosphere through participation in a varsity sport.

The goals and practices of the intercollegiate athletic program are to:

  • Sponsor intercollegiate competitive sports in accordance with the conference rules and the State Athletic Constitution.
  • Foster broad programs of men's and women's intercollegiate athletics that are consistent with the educational objectives of Compton Center.
  • Encourage excellence in performance by all participants in intercollegiate athletics, as well as stimulate academic achievement through the maintenance of high standards of scholarship.
  • Maintain and increase balanced athletic program offerings for both men and women as students, budgets, and community interests will allow.
  • Prohibit the recruitment of out-of-state student-athletes as specified in the State Athletic Constitution.
  • Direct recruiting efforts toward student-athletes residing in the Compton Community College District, support the right of student-athletes to attend their school of choice, and participate in all activities with the conditions specified by the State Athletic Constitution.
