Special Trustee Peter J. Landsberger
Longtime community college administrator Peter J. Landsberger is the Special Trustee for the Compton Community College District, appointed by the Chancellor of the California Community College System.
Landsberger is the former interim chancellor of the Los Angeles Community College District, serving from 2003 - 2005. As chief executive officer of the largest community college district in California, he oversaw nine colleges and two educational centers that serve more than 110,000 students each term.
He was also the Senior Vice Chancellor of the Los Angeles Community College District, where he helped formulate district policy and assisted the Chancellor and the Board of Trustees in setting district goals, objectives, and strategies. Landsberger served as a key strategist and manager of the district's two successful facilities bond measures; and led the district's effort to modernize its personnel, payroll and finance software.
Before coming to Los Angeles in July of 1999, Landsberger was president of the College of San Mateo, where he created new systems for the college, including a formal shared governance structure; a well-accepted budget development process; and an enhanced public relations and marketing program.
Landsberger has served in a variety of other leadership positions, including dean of the business/computer systems division at DeAnza College, vice chancellor and general counsel of the Foothill-DeAnza Community College District, and state university counsel for the California State University system.
Landsberger earned a law degree from the University of California at Berkeley, an A.B. degree in political science from UC Berkeley, and an A.A. degree from Santa Monica College. He also completed post-graduate work at the Graduate School of Education at Harvard University and Harvard Law School.
Throughout his career, Landsberger has been active in many professional and community organizations, including: UNITE-LA, member, board of directors; San Mateo Chamber of Commerce, member, board of directors; Rotary Club of San Mateo, member; and the Community School of Music and Arts, member and president of board of directors.
