These are the online databases which the library subscribes to for the students of El Camino College Compton Community Educational Center. To access any of them, please select the database link by clicking the blue title. A prompt will ask for a user name and password. The Reference Librarian on campus has a list of user names and passwords. You should show your student ID to get the list. Enter the user name and password supplied for each database as listed.

Health Reference Center Academic [1980-2008] Multi-source database provides access to the full text of nursing and allied health journals, plus the wide variety of personal health information sources in InfoTrac's award-winning Health Reference Center. All in a single, easy-to-use database, the material contained in this database is intended for informational purposes only.

2. Health and Wellness Resource Center [1980-2008] Provides instant access to carefully compiled and trusted medical reference materials. Includes nearly 400 health/medical journals, numerous reference volumes, over 700 health videos from partner Healthology, Inc., hundreds of pamphlets and health-related articles from 2,200 general interest publications in addition to a broad collection of Gale reference titles. Material contained in this Resource Center is intended for informational purposes only.

3. Ovid SP - Access the latest, most trusted scientific, medical and academic research journals through searchable full text database Searches can be made on every word, every graphic and every caption . Full access to all tables of contents and bibliographic citations for every journal in the collection

1. Literature Resource Center- LRC [2008] Full-text journal articles, literary criticism, reviews, biographical information, and overviews on over 130,000 writers in all disciplines, from all time periods and from around the world.

2. Project Gutenberg- is the first and largest single collection of free electronic books, or eBooks. There are over 25,000 free books in the Project Gutenberg Online Book Catalog. A grand total of over 100,000 titles are available at Project Gutenberg Partners, Affiliates and Resources.

3.Noodle Tools: A powerful note-taking software that promotes critical thinking and creativity combined with the most comprehensive and accurate MLA- and APA-style bibliography composer on the Web. This is aid for researchers who need to cite their sources of information. Please get the printed guide from the library to help you register on this site.

1.PROQUEST Provides one-stop access to a wide range of popular academic subjects. It features a highly-respected, diversified mix of scholarly journals, trade publications, magazines, and newspapers. This combination of volume and scope makes it one of the broadest, most inclusive databases ProQuest has to offer.  

2.FACTS. Com  or Facts On File World News Digest @ FACTS.com connects all the relevant material in the database, using more than half a million internal hyperlinks. Thousands of additional hyperlinks connect researchers to relevant information from the three other databases @ FACTS.com: Issues & Controversies; Today's Science, and the World Almanac Reference Database, including the World Almanac Encyclopedia. 

3.SIRS: A comprehensive database portal which is comprised of several distinct reference databases including SIRS Researcher®, SIRS Government Reporter®,

SIRS Renaissance which are updated daily, SKS provides relevant, credible information on social issues, science, history, government, the arts and humanities. Articles on controversial issues are offered featuring two sides of the issues: their PRO and CON.  Full-text articles and Internet resources are carefully selected from thousands of domestic and international publications and respected organizations. Databases about countries of the world, political conditions and their maps are also offered.

4. CQ Researcher: Often the first source recommended when researchers are seeking original, comprehensive reporting and analysis on issues in the news. Founded in 1923 as Editorial Research Reports, CQ Researcher is noted for its in-depth, unbiased coverage of health, social trends, criminal justice, international affairs, education, the environment, technology, and the economy. Reports are published weekly in print and online 44 times a year by CQ Press, a division of Congressional Quarterly Inc 

5. Country Watch- provides critical country-specific intelligence and data through its suite of products to over 4000 clients including public and private sector organizations with overseas operations and global interests. Its features include: individual country reviews, news, maps, and election reports. (Access through campus computers only)

The following are databases that pertain to history. If you need  to search multiple databases at the same time, please use this link: HISTORY.

 1.  American History Online  is a comprehensive and authoritative reference to the most important individuals, events, and topics in United States history. This invaluable reference source is organized by content type, topic, era, and activity as well as by the National Standards for U.S. History. Thousands of fully hyper-linked entries allow users to follow a topic to related biographies, primary source documents, images, and more than 500 historical videos. Web links direct users to a number of relevant educational sites.

2.   American Women's History Online  contains biographies, historical and topical subject entries, speeches and other documents, maps and charts, photographs, over 60 videos, and timeline entries that cover more than 500 years of American women's history.

3.   African-American History Online has extensive hyper-linked entries, including photographs, maps, and over 70 videos, span more than 500 years of African-American history, and cover topics such as affirmative action, Africa, black nationalism, civil rights, emancipation, Harlem Renaissance, leaders, religion, slave living conditions and liberation strategies, sports, visual arts, and more.

1. Science Online conveys the visual nature of science in a clear and easy-to-comprehend manner. All content in this comprehensive database is divided into sections based on the science curriculum established by the National Science Education Standards, enabling students and researchers to access printable experiments, diagrams, definitions, biographies, more than 350 videos, and essays in a specific subject area or discipline .

2. Today's Science  covers all the topics that today's students study: health, the environment, technology, life science, physical science, earth and space science, and science and society.It is a permanent record of the significant developments in science and technology from 1992 to present.

3. Science.gov - searches over 36 databases and 1,850 selected websites, offering 200 million pages of authoritative U.S. government science information, including research and development results. This is a government sponsored site offering huge databases on topics like Math, Agriculture, Physics and a host of other areas.

VI. Career Development [Back to Top]

1. Learning Express - This database provides practice exams for basic skills, TOEFL, civil service, U.S. citizenship , nursing including NCLEX and other academic and career oriented preparations. You must register and create your own I.D. and password.

2. The Occupational Outlook Handbook - is a page from the Bureau of Statistics of the Department of Labor. It is nationally recognized source of career information, designed to provide valuable assistance to individuals making decisions about their future work lives.
