What is EOP&S?
Extended Opportunity Program & Services (EOP&S) is a program that is designed to assist low-income and educationally-disadvantaged students achieve their educational goals at Compton Center. The program encourages the enrollment, retention, and transfer of students who are challenged by language, social, economic, and educational disadvantages. The goal of EOP&S is to facilitate the successful completion of goals and objectives at Compton Center by providing services which are over, above, and in addition to those provided to the general college population.
Counselors provide matriculation, transfer, career, personal and academic guidance services for all eligible students. EOP&S staff also works with students on registration and other needs they might have. Counseling is provided by appointment and/or on a walk-in basis.

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS
To qualify for EOP&S, student must:
- be a California resident
- enrolled in 12 or more units
- have fewer than 70 degree applicable units
- qualify for a Board of Governors Fee Waiver A
or B, or C (with zero estimated family contribution)
and have an educational need as determined by
Title V regulations.
And an education need in one of the following areas:
- Placement scores below English 1A or Math 40
- Non high-school graduate or have passed the
California Proficiency Exam, or earned a GED
- Previous enrollment in remedial courses
- High school graduate with GPA below 2.5
- Other factors as determined by the EOP&S Director
STUDENT RESPONSIBILITY
- Apply for state and federal financial aid
- File an EOP&S application
- Complete an EOP&S Student Responsibility
Contract
- Complete a Student Educational Plan
- Maintain academic progress toward
a certificate, associate degree, or transfer goal(s)
- Attend Orientation
- Return progress reports
- Meet with EOP&S counselor two times per semester
- Maintain a 2.00 GPA
- Complete at least 50% of coursework each semester

CARE
WHAT IS CARE?
The Cooperative Agencies Resources for Education (CARE) program is a unique educational program geared toward EOP&S student who are currently receiving CalWORKs/TANF/AFDC and desire job-relevant education. As a supplement component of EOP&S, the CARE program is designed to provide educational support services as a means of strengthening the retention, persistence, graduation and transfer rates of its participants.
WHAT DOES CARE OFFER?
In addition to EOP&S services, CARE students receive special counseling and advisement, orientation, personal development, support services, per advising, direct grants, CPR/First Aid training, workshops of interest to single parents, assistance with purchasing books and supplies, child care referrals and information, and campus- and community-based referrals.
WHO IS ELIGIBLE FOR CARE?
You may be eligible for the CARE program if you:
- are accepted into the EOP&S program
- are at least 18 years of age
- are a single parent, head of your household
- are currently receiving AFDC/TANF/CalWORKs
- have at least one child under 14 years of age
- are enrolled full-time upon admission into the program
- are enrolled in a program leading to a vocational certificate or license, associate degree or transfer option
